MFC Grant
PURPOSE OF THE MFC GRANT
Recognizing that all resources are gifts from God, Mennonite Foundation of Canada (MFC) encourages "Faithful Joyful Giving.” The MFC Grant supports ventures that encourage generosity and faithful financial stewardship in a Christian context. Grants are available to congregations, conferences and charitable organizations with a vision and plans for developing and promoting generous giving. In order to be considered, grant applications must align themselves closely with MFC’s core principles. For examples of projects that could be considered for the MFC Grant, click here.
WHAT MFC DOES
Mennonite Foundation of Canada promotes faithful stewardship of financial resources through its teaching and education materials. It is the primary stewardship education agency for many church conferences.
As a charitable foundation, MFC also facilitates faithful stewardship by providing personal client services, such as donor-advised gifting services and consultation on will and estate planning. It also manages endowments for families and church-related charitable institutions.
APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR THE MENNONITE FOUNDATION OF CANADA GRANT
- Priority will be given to projects of the MFC participating conferences and to congregation-based projects of the churches within these conferences.
- All applicants for an MFC Grant must have a charitable registration number with Canada Revenue Agency. Proof of this must accompany each grant application; a copy of the organization’s charitable donation receipt will be sufficient evidence.
- Priority in grants will be given to projects which also receive funding from other sources, whether on a matching-grant basis or otherwise. Projects should not be financed entirely by an MFC Grant.
- Consideration will not normally be given to requests to fund operating deficits, property maintenance, or capital projects (e.g. land, buildings, furniture, and other standard equipment).
- Grants will not be subject to a maximum amount and will be available for distribution over a period longer than a year.
- MFC will require permission from the recipient charities to allow their organizations’ name (and the size and purpose of their grants) to be used for publicity purposes.
- MFC will require a written report from the charity—within 12 months of receiving the grant—as to how the grant monies were used.
The MFC Grant Fund is an endowment established by the MFC Board of Directors for the purpose of funding projects of a charitable, religious, or educational nature within our participating conferences and congregations. Awards are made semi-annually from the fund’s earnings, at the discretion of the Executive and the Board of Directors.
