Youth Memorial Fund

The Youth Memorial Fund was established to benefit young persons with physical disabilities or medical expenses related to an accident. This fund was created by the parents of Barry Freeman, Bryan Martin, T. Scott Wideman, and Michael Wilson, four young men who lost their lives in a tragic hayride accident at a youth event in 1984.

The fund aims to benefit one or more young people annually, with grants up to $2,000 per person. Grant money may be used for items such as:  rehabilitation equipment, accessibility modifications in a home or vehicle, mobility devices, and expenses related to a long-term medical condition.

Eligibility

    • young persons between the ages of 14-25 who have physical disabilities or medical expenses relating to an accident or long-term physical condition
    • financial need
    • resident in Ontario.
Preference will be given to members or adherents of congregations within Mennonite Church Eastern Canada, although others may apply. Applicants may benefit from the fund only once. However, unsuccessful applicants may re-apply in subsequent years.

Application Procedure

Potential recipients or persons/churches acting on their behalf should send a letter outlining applicant’s history, need, and what any grant money would be used towards.  Please include the youth’s full name and birth date.
